Yash Raj Films Samrat Prithviraj has released in theatres today and though the film is spectacular – supposedly Adi Chopra spent two years on the VFX of this film while Akshay Kumar has seriously done a good job playing the title role in our opinion, there is still a segment of critics who are panning the film. So though we enjoyed watching the film, we list out five reasons why Samrat Prithviraj may not appeal to the mass public.

  1. Akshay Kumar: Agreed, he’s done a fab job in the title role, however, some may feel that Akshay may seem a tad miscast for the title role perhaps because the masses still have his ‘Houseful’ and ‘Khiladi’ image etched  firmly in their minds… the reason also may be because Akshay has signed too many films and so his image is set as an action comic hero – the gummy ‘Akshay’ smile somehow seems incongruous in a period drama.
  2. Manushi Chhillar:  This beauty queen looks very pretty. But Akshay and her jodi somehow may not click with the public – the massive age gap of 29 years may be the reason for it.
  3. Loose editing: Though it was fascinating to see history come alive on celluloid, it needed some more dramatic moments – the plot founders in a few places making the film an average fare.
  4. Music: Music is the backbone of every Bollywood film. This film lacks soulful songs that touch the soul – the absence of any hit songs may hamper the film.
  5. Hardly any promotions: What was YRF thinking? They promoted this film in a very half-hearted ‘jaldi jaldi’ way. If they had given the public some time to warm up to Akshay and Manushi’s jodi, perhaps the film could have ignited a passion in the hearts of the masses.

..All in all, though Samrat Prithviraj is a good film and may be counted as Akshay Kumar’s best in my opinion, the masses may not give it too much love. But then again, let’s wait ‘n’ watch… the audience has proved many a critic wrong before… they may do it yet again.
