Could you tell us about your OTT series ‘Bestseller’?
‘Bestseller’, is a psychological thriller. It’s an adaptation of a book by ‘Ravi Subramaniam’. I play the central character of Tahir Wazirwho’s a novelist and he is this flamboyant and assertive person who is very successful and then a stranger comes into his life and changes it forever. There’s a clash of two worlds where the past, present and future of this layered and complex character of Tahir Wazir changes. The title ‘Bestseller’ has defined itself in every aspect of the series, that’s an overall scenario. It has a stellar star cast including Mithun Chakraborty, Shruti Hassan, Gauahar Khan, Sonali Kulkarni, Satyajit Dubey and produced and directed by Alchemy Film’s Siddharth Malhotra and Mukul Abhyankar respectively.
You’ve worked for films and now digital…Is there any marked difference working on these diverse platforms?
Yes, I worked in films like ‘Kabir Singh’ and also debuted in a Tamil film –I’ve worked in a total of 23 films – did 2 web shows which were ‘State of Siege’ on Zee5 and now ‘Bestseller’ on Amazon Prime. I would say there’s no difference for an actor. I think the only difference between films and OTT is that you are showcasing your skills on two different platforms. Basically, even a series is a film shot over a long duration and for an actor, film making process is completely the same. So, I don’t think that there is any kind of a divide for filmmakers or film business as such for OTT and films.
However, the exhibition medium is different. But, yes, one thing that has been a big boom to OTT is that the audience has become far and wide. The projects that take up on OTT can reach the audience in 100+ countries and are sometimes dubbed into different languages and that makes a huge difference. You can showcase your talent all over the world.
