Stardust caught up with Kruti Sheth, Founder, The Lair, Barbershop who gives some interesting pointers on ‘men’ grooming.  The Lair Man is a one-stop shop salon, barbershop, and haircare brand that specializes in haircuts and personal grooming.

If you are a man who wants to take care of himself regularly but think it is un-masculine to do so, then we’re here to tell you it does not have to be that way. Those days when it was considered vain for men to spend their time grooming and taking care of themselves are gone. Now, it is a well and impeccably-groomed man that it is the ideal. Men’s grooming has evolved from using multi-use products to specialized self-care routines! Here are the habits of men who take care of their unique skin and hair needs which you too can include in your daily self-care regimen

Have a custom skin care routine:
Developing a skin-care routine that works for you is much better than waiting for your skin to breakout and hurrying to a dermatologist at the last minute. Taking preventive action is better than running to cure something. However, these two basic but powerful skin-care practices never disappoint –Moisturizer and sunscreen. Apply some moisturizer in the night and a sunscreen + moisturizer combination in the day to look picture-perfect throughout the day.

Sunscreen is one of the most underrated skin-care tools. But once you know that it prevents uneven skin tones, fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging due to sun damage, you won’t take this step lightly. Put one layer before stepping out of your house in the morning, and top it up with an additional layer every four hours.

Pick a nutrient-dense moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and nourished during the day and work regenerative magic on your complexion at night.

Don’t miss your hair appointments:
For men, there is a fine line between hair that looks stylish and hair that appears unkempt. Only you know when you are about to cross the line per your growth cycle.  Make sure you find a barber that knows how you like your hair and are proactive in booking recurring appointments with them. So that you stay sharp before the need arises and don’t have to rush to the salon when you are a day or two near the rough, untidy look.

Groom your facial fuzz:
Scruffy, disheveled beards might only look good on Pushpa. But in the real world if you have an overgrown beard, it can make a lazy impression. Maintaining beards need commitment and constant care. To save time, you can stick to the evergreen lightly-shaved or clean shaved look as they are timeless and fuss-free. All you need is to invest in a good quality razor.

Get products that suit your skin and hair:
While every product might seem like a hit, don’t chase them.It might take some trial and error but experiment with your hair and skin to find products that suit them. You could talk to your barber, skin specialist, or a hair care professional to get tips on products that work for you and your personal style. Also, the most expensive product is not necessarily the best one. You can look impeccable even with an affordable budget.

Care for your nails and nail health:
Trim your nails regularly. Believe it or not, your nails get noticed more than you think. If your nails are chipped, bitten or dirty, it will make a bad impression. So, apart from trimming your nails, indulge in pedicures and manicures every once in a while. They aren’t lavish spending, but only necessary hygiene practices. Besides, they can be quite fun and relaxing!

Spend quality time with yourself:
Grooming is not just about looking but also feeling great. Taking time for yourself will make you feel better on the inside. This includes getting soundless and interruption-free sleep, indulging in activities that you enjoy, and de-stressing yourself. Take a walk, go for a hike, dance away in dance class, watch some Netflix, or unwind with a book – the point is to do whatever that keeps your spirit going. After all, happy people are beautiful people!
