Poonam Khubani – producer, cinema lover, TV star, businesswoman, an advocate of social causes, and fashionista, has always made an indelible mark in the entertainment industry. A prolific music lover and an excellent singer, her tryst with music has been a life-long pursuit. Read on as we spotlight the awesome Poonam Khubani’s amazing musical journey.
The multi-faceted Poonam Khubani, producer and melodious singer is amazingly talented. Also known as Poonam Kay, not only has she proved to be a singer par excellence – her song Ek Look Ek Look directed by Anand Raaj Anand from the film Aryan: The Unbreakable and her own albums Nach Le and Tum Chale Aao have been the talk of the town for their amazingly hummable tunes. She’s made many peppy pop videos after that. Not only that, her collaboration with the music whizzes Meet Bros and ace choreographer Remo D’Souza has lifted her to amazing heights. Composers Manmeet and Harmeet Singh of Meet Bros fame along with choreographer Remo D’Souza collaborated with Poonam for a music video titled “Pretty Woman’.
In fact, Harmeet of Meet Bros fame averred to a question asked on how he and Poonam connected, “We met through a common friend and we were looking for someone who sings well so we told a friend that we were looking for a new golden voice.
We have worked with Kanika who sang Baby Doll and Chittiyan Kalaiyan before and we wanted someone new with a different flair. So my friend said that she has a very good friend in New York – and it will be great because a lot of Bollywood composers don’t experiment with talent there so it’s untapped. We believe that the world has become a small place – we thought London is done so why not New York, and so why not have an Indian settled there.”

The numbers that the Meet Brothers worked on with Poonam were Punjabi numbers. Manmeet from Meet Bros, said, “We want to make it one family. We need to move from East to West and make it one package! We heard Poonam’s voice and it had that bounce even though she’s not Punjabi. She has that fresh, playback feel in her voice. We all need to pay tribute to our roots, and we may even do a big Rajasthani song with her since she’s from Jaipur.” Well, after that, two songs were recorded at a studio in Times Square, and some videos were in the works.
So what was special about Poonam’s voice? Harmeet answered, “Poonam has the focus and the persistence and the fire in her!”
So where will the songs be featured? According to Meet Bros, “These songs will be featured in upcoming movies. These are evergreen songs because we believe in music to which everyone can listen to and dance to – songs which are global.” Remo D’Souza too added, “Poonam has an amazing voice. This is the most lavish music video I have ever shot, more lavish than most Bollywood film songs.” Indeed, Poonam Khubani is the talk of the town for her multi-faceted talents and her powerhouse performances. Kudos to this amazing lady!
