The song Tu AakeDekhLe is a huge sensation amid the netizens and GenZ, Sumita Chakraborty caught up with KING, the singer to find out more about the song and him.
Why King? What made you decide to call yourself King?
The answer to this is very simple. I decided to call myself KING so that my fight could only be with myself. I wanted to live up to my name, and what better than living like a King. As an artist, I have always aimed to live up to it. My artistry, my craft, everything makes sense when I associate it with the name – KING! This name also helped me focus and give my best to my art. This is why my name is King, and even my social media handles go by – @IFeelKing.
What’s the unique factor that you’ve got after you collaborated with Moj?
I recently collaborated with Moj for a live session on the app to promote my new EP ‘Khwabeeda’ and converse with my fans. It was the first time I had done this, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. I connected with my audience by giving them a sneak peek into my life’s journey, my learnings, and the challenges that I faced. I could also get real-time responses from the audience, which helped me understand what my fans think about my work and what changes I can imbibe in the future.
Your song Tu AakeDekhLe is a huge sensation – what went into making this song, and what were the challenges you faced?
Tu AakeDekhle became a massive hit, and I am extremely grateful for the love it has received. This song is really close to my heart but of course, some challenges came along the way. We were running a little low on funds and we had already shared the date for the song launch way before it was even written, and only the title was on our minds. We prepared the song within 3-4 days and worked on stringent deadlines. The releasing time of the song was 10 am, but due to unforeseeable circumstances, the song was released at 11 pm. Also, the song succeeded after 6 to 7 months of its release date. Till then, no one knew what ‘Tu AakeDekhle’ was! So yes, magic happens, and it happened to me, and I feel fortunate.
Tell us about Khwabeeda and your other projects?
The inception of Khwabeeda was actually very spontaneous. I came up with it when I was actually in the shower. My idea was to showcase various facets of art and stages in the life of an artist while also resonating with society. This EP also links to my upcoming album ‘The Champagne Talks.’ Khwabeeda is a story written by a fictional woman called ‘Khwabeeda Hussain.’ Through the story, she talks about different stages of life and character and sheds light on the challenges one faces. This is showcased through the songs – Baazi, Ek Tarfa, and Sinner. Although the process was very long and I wanted to make sure that we did things differently, I thoroughly enjoyed it and am very happy with the outcome. ‘Khwabeeda’ is the first EP that has been released cinematically in India and it is also certified smash cinematic video that is doing great on charts.
I am looking forward to releasing my new album, ‘The Champagne Talks’ which has eight tracks. All the eight songs on the album are solos since there are no features. The album is musically driven.
