Director-producer Anil V Kumar has had quite an eventful journey in showbiz. He credits his son for helping him reach the position he enjoys today.
“I came with only dreams and no money in Mumbai. It taught me a lot at every step forward from selling handkerchiefs at a station to working as a spot, then as an office boy, then assistant director and finally a director. My journey made me learn so much that after becoming a director, I always looked at each character from my own heart and soul as I had put myself in that character’s shoes and then captured each artist in every frame. I captured reactions which were real and will connect to the viewers. I wanted to capture the reality of that character in their eyes. Each day teaches us something new and I am on that path of learning, experimenting and entertaining people,” he says.
He adds, “The day I wanted to produce was the day I had a conversation with my son about my future plans. Suddenly, he said, ‘Papa, you have been in this industry for a decade now and where do you see yourself in five years?’ That question I guess got stuck in my mind because I was living each day at a time. I decided to be a solo producer and I started my journey in that direction. And now within three years, I have produced four shows on OTT.”
Talking about his plans ahead, he adds, “I am looking forward to making more content and entertaining the viewers in the best way possible. I have not only achieved what I promised myself but I achieved my son’s belief in setting goals and then achieving them at the right time. So here I am.”
Anil started his production house in 2018 and has lots in store. “We have just launched one anthology on Hungama Play Originals and my next Ratri Ke Yatri 2 will be coming soon,” he says.
