The ‘much older woman, younger lover’ trend-o-meter has soared. In fact, the industry is seeing more and more mature love stories where the woman is much older than the man. Hollywood has of course, seen a lot of such pairing starting from Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, Britney Spears and Sam Asghari, Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles, Kate Hudson and Danny Fujikawa and so many others. But now, so has Bollywood. Let’s start with the spotlight grabber Lalit Modi whose net worth of Rs 4,555 crores trended after he set the internet on fire with his loved up tweets for his “better half” – our fave former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen. But we aren’t talking about our darling Sush just yet. We are going to talk about Lalit and his love affair with his first wife, the gorgeous Minal Modi who unfortunately passed away in 2018. Lalit and she tied the knot in 1991 and this marriage caused a lot of furore in the society circles. Supposedly, Minal was Lalit’s mother Bina’s friend and was 10 years older than Lalit. She was previously married to a Saudi Arabia based businessman Jack Sagrani who she had a child with. But Jack was jailed for a scam. Minal and Jack got divorced and she returned to India. The passionate lover that he was, Lalit refused to give up Minal and though his family was completely against this match, they had to give in because Lalit insisted he would create the biggest scandal ever if he was not allowed to get married to Minal. And so he married Minal and remained a devoted husband for many decades (except perhaps for some stray gadabouts with cheerleaders).
Likewise Sush too was much older than her boyfriend Rohman Shawl but they lived and loved passionately and were happy for the amount of time they were together.
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas too have a huge age difference but does anyone care? Not them at least! Cocking a snook at society’s stereotype pigeon holing, PeeCee and Nick got married with a lot of pomp and show… and now continue to show the world what good love stories are all about.
Of course, the best case in this will be the sexy Malaika Arora and Arjun Kapoor. Supposedly, many light years ago when the roly poly Arjun Kapoor was dating Salman’s sister Arpita, he set eyes on the gorgeous Malaika who was then married to Salman’s brother Arbaaz. Arjun fell in love, hook, line and sinker and though supposedly, many friends including Sohail advised him against being infatuated by the Indian “Mrs Robinson”, Arjun was absolutely smitten by Malaika. Many years later, Malaika got a divorce from Arbaaz and Arjun trimmed down to being a svelte actor. Today, Arjun and Malaika are living their ‘happily ever after’ saga.
